NO FILIPINO HURT IN PARIS BAKERY GAS EXPLOSION

MANILA -- No Filipino was harmed in the recent explosion at a bakery in Paris that killed three people and injured scores of others, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Sunday night.

"The Philippine Embassy in Paris said it was informed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs that none of the three fatalities or the almost 50 who were injured in the blast was from the Philippines," DFA Asst. Sec. Elmer Cato said.

There are around 25,000 Filipinos in France, a majority of them in Paris.

Chargé d’Affaires Aileen Mendiola, for his part, extended condolences to the families of the three fatalities.

The blast, caused by suspected gas leak, took place at a bakery along Rue de Trevise on Saturday.

According to reports, two of the more than 200 firefighters responding to the incident were among the dead. (PNA)
