DAVAO CITY —Police here arrested a 90-year-old man for bringing a handgun and other deadly objects while trying to enter the office of former special assistant to the president and senatorial hopeful Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go here late Monday.

Bambaran Bantog, of Tamparan town, Lanao del Sur was turned over to police after a soldier manning the gate at the Office of the Special Assistant to the President (OSAP) at Chavez Street here, found a caliber .45 pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition, two knives and a pair of scissors inside a sling bag and backpack he was carrying past 5 p.m., a report from the Davao City Police Office said.

Go incited the incident in a tweet, claiming a threat to kill him.

“An old man went to the OSAP in Davao City and he may be planning to kill yours truly,” the former presidential aide wrote in Filipino.

Police said the suspect had told investigators he was out to kill President Duterte.

Charges of illegal possession of firearms and deadly weapons and violation of the election gun ban were now being readied against the suspect.

In October last year, the Armed Forces of the Philippines had also anticipated ouster plots and death threats against the chief executive. The army sympathetically called out the public to be cautious for any movement deemed as the “Red October.”
