DAVAO CITY--The number of arrested persons wanted for various crimes in Davao Region have already reached over 2,800 since August 2018, a police official said on Sunday.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-11 Director, Brig. Gen. Marcelo Morales, said he is expecting the number to increase as the PRO-11 continues its campaign against wanted persons and all forms of criminality.

"Evidently, more numbers of most wanted persons and wanted persons being captured equates to lesser criminal activities and criminal incidents on the streets. It shows in our crime statistics that crime volume went down this year," Morales said.

He noted that in the first quarter of this year alone, the average weekly crime incidence went down to an average of 48-49 incidents per week from the previous average of 69-70 incidents per week.

PRO-11 spokesperson Maj. Jason Baria on Sunday said the 2,832 Most Wanted Persons were arrested during various operations by the different units from August 2018 to May 31, 2019.

In its recent operation on Thursday, Baria said a wanted person for murder was killed in a shootout with authorities in Bajada, this city.

Baria said Segundino Gerente Jr., alias Entoy Waray, 44, of Purok 1, Brgy. 19-B, San Antonio, Bajada, was listed as Top 2 Most Wanted- Regional Level.

He said Gerente shot it out with police officers from the Provincial Intelligence Branch of Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental, Banay-Banay Municipal and San Pedro Police Stations, who served a warrant for his arrest at his residence.

Gerente was immediately rushed by the operatives to the Southern Philippines Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.

Authorities also recovered from Gerente a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and a cal. 45 Colt pistol that he used to shoot the authorities. (PNA)
