PHP 0.09 INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY BILL THIS MARCH – MERALCO
There would be Php 0.09 per kilowatt hour (kWh) increase to electricity rates for the month of March which means that a typical household consuming 200 kWh would have additional Php 18 in their monthly bill the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) announced on Thursday. For a household consuming 300 kWh the additional charge would be Php 27 while those residential customers with 400 kWh would have to pay Php 36 increase. Thus, the net adjustment for typical household consuming 500 kWh would be charge with Php 45 more compared to their electrical bill on February.
MERALCO pointed that even though the generation charge went down to 0.2966 due to lower charges from power plants under Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) the transmission charge for residential increase by Php 0.0288. Moreover, the taxes and other charges also went upward by Php 0.3572 due to completion of Universal Charge-Stranded Contract Costs (UC-SCC), which was the refund for the excess collected last month.
Meanwhile, MERALCO Vice-President and Head of Public Information Office Joe Zaldarriaga clarified there would be enough power supply for the upcoming national and local elections this year.
