“It’s just like yung may hit ka sa NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) kailangan mong pumunta sa ano just to confirm na wala pala (It’s just like when you have hit in NBI you need to come to the office to confirm or clarify)”, this was the statement of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Major General Oscar Amador Corpus on the press briefing of Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday; in relation to the arrest of Margarita Valle at the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.
The CIDG counterpart in region 9 arrested Valle on Sunday morning for charges of multiple murder, quadruple frustrated murder and damage to government property but later released around 9 PM on Sunday due to mistaken identity.
Corpus mentioned that it was a “normal police procedure” and the counterparts used an agent to intercept the alleged suspect at the Laguindingan Airport then was brought to Pagadian in Zamboanga Del Sur. Though after meeting, the informant confirmed that Valle was not the one they were looking for because of the picture they have on their hands.
The CIDG chief also said that he already directed the CIDG regional unit chief in region 9 to submit a complete report to analyze what were the flaws at the police procedure when it comes to validation and confirmation of the identity of the suspect.
On the other, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Albayalde pointed out that if Valle felt that she was violated during the arrest of wished to file a complaint the authority would be glad to assist her.
Albayalbe stressed that there were isolated cases of mistaken identity because the complainant was mistaken when pointing the who the suspect. (CA|LON)
