LAOAG CITY—Owing to its intensified drive against loose firearms, local authorities were able to confiscate six assorted firearms, 18 magazines and 262 ammunitions, one hand grenade and one smoke grenade during week-long simultaneous police operations in Region 1 on November 20-24, 2018.

Chief Supt. Romulo E. Sapitula, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1, reported Monday that police operatives also arrested at least seven persons — Pangasinan (1), Ilocos Norte (3), and Ilocos Sur (3).

According to Sapitula, appropriate charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 were already filed in court against the arrested suspects.

Sapitula said that his command will sustain the stricter campaign against loose firearms and day-to-day implementation of search warrants to control possible proliferation of loose firearms that may be used in criminality.

“These accomplishments manifest our strong commitment to ensure peaceful celebration of the yuletide season and as part of the preparation for the upcoming national and local elections”, Sapitula said. (PNA)
