POLITICAL CANDIDATES WITH MORE THAN 2 BODYGUARDS ARE SUBJECT TO ARREST – PNP
“Subject to arrest” this is the term the Philippine National Police (PNP) used if a candidate for national and local election would have more than 2 bodyguards.
In a radio interview, PNP Spokesperson Senior Supt. Bernard Banac explained that having more than two security escorts from the police or military is prohibited and subjected to arrest due to violation of the law under the election period.
Banac said that if there is a threat on a candidate’s life the only authorized armed guards should come from the police or military which the Commission on Election (Comelec) allowed.
When there is a validated threat in a candidate’s life he or she should inform Comelec about it so the agency could give the necessary actions, PNP explained.
Banac encouraged the public to report those who would be caught violating the resolution that aims to keep the political tensions in the country from happening.
