QUEZON CITY – For the third consecutive time, the Quezon City government has been named as the most outstanding local legislative body in the National Capital Region, the Philippine News Agency reported.

Recently, the Department of the Interior and Local Government-National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) handed the DILG Local Legislative Award to the Quezon City council for crafting and enacting effective ordinances and resolutions.

The award recognizes the local government’s “exemplary performance of the Sanggunian in cities and municipalities in crafting measures that help build the foundation of meaningful local administration and development.”

Specifically, the agency lauded the LGU’s exemplary performance on responsiveness to legislative agenda, easy access on approved local decrees, legislative tracking system, capability development seminars for local and their staff, and innovations including the “Batas QC” mobile application.

Some measures approved by the local government are considered firsts in the Philippines and was later emulated by other LGUs, the agency mentioned.

“Some of our codes and ordinances lauded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government are the road safety code, traffic management code, dangerous drugs code, responsible gaming ordinance, comprehensive socialized housing code, and fair market values ordinance,” Quezon City Vice Mayor Josefina Belmonte said.

“On behalf of the Quezon City Council, I would like to commend Mayor Herbert Bautista for giving us directives that challenged us to work harder,” she added.

Given every three years, Quezon City bagged the same award in 2010 and 2016.
