As the Philippines observes its 121st anniversary celebration of Independence Day, militant groups rallied at the gates of United States Embassy to voice out their grievances about the current situation taking place in the country.
Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares has questioned the presence of Chinese vessels around the West Philippine Sea, the territory which Southeast Asian countries are currently disputing.
At the moment there is Chinese militia around the Pag-asa Island and Chinese warships near Panatag Shoal which are clearly part of our territory. They were destroying our giant clams and they were disrupting our fishermen within our seas),” Colmenares stressed out.
He also questioned the Independence the country currently have.
(How are we going to say we are free if this is how foreigners in treat us in our own country and even Malacañang can’t stand for us?),” he added.
Aside from Bayan Muna, Gabriela and Kabataan Partylists also marched along T.M. Kalaw Avenue, Manila around 9:30 am but the Manila Police District immediately stopped them until they were allowed to move forward and reached Roxas Boulevard. (CA/LON)
