QUEZON CITY HAILED FOR GENDER-RESPONSIVE PROGRAMS
The Philippine Commission on Women lauded the Quezon City government for being one of the most gender-responsive local government unit, local reports said.
In particular, commission commended the city government for its enactment of gender and development (GAD) ordinances which uphold human rights, gender equality, and women empowerment.
Quezon City Vice Mayor Josefina Belmonte received the award recognizing the city as a Gender and Development Local Learning Hub in view of its GAD programs, including the city’s protection center for victim-survivors of gender-based violence and abuse and city social hygiene clinics.
“In behalf of the Quezon City local government, I would like to thank the Philippine Commission on Women for recognizing our programs on gender development, and our efforts in providing a gender-responsive governance,” Belmonte said.
“Quezon City has a comprehensive gender-fair ordinance and we are the only one to establish a Quezon City Pride Council for our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community,” she added.
She added the establishment of the social hygiene clinics is part of the city council’s efforts to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
