STADIUM, AIRPORT TO RISE IN TAGUM CITY
Various projects are soon to be developed in Tagum City including a stadium and an airport. During his recent State of the City Address (SOCA) Mayor Allan Rellon bared some upcoming projects that will benefit the Tagumenos.
Topping the list of projects is the construction of the Tagum City Stadium to be designed by world-renowned architect Jun Palafox with a seating capacity of 20,000 will be located in Barangay Madaum.
Rellon said near the stadium is the proposed Tagum Airport, also in Barangay Madaum as Tagum is the number one choice to be built with an alternative site for another regional airport to decongest Davao International Airport.
Davao del Norte Governor Anthony del Rosario, chair of the Regional Development Council (RDC) has urged that even with the DIA’s expansion, another airport that is at least an hour away, would be needed for the long term and identified Tagum as the ideal alternative because it is one hour away. With the Mindanao Railway (is coming) wherein the first phase is Tagum-Davao-Digos would be easier for passengers coming from (the) south going to Tagum in order to catch a plane.
Other projects that are being developed and soon to be developed include the City Historical and Cultural Center that is being targeted to be completed on June 23, 2019; PNP Tagum Police Station and City Training Complex, Tagum City Flyover Project, child-minding center, and the Boys Care Center:
“Very soon, we shall have separate care facilities for boys and girls as a testament of our commitment to helping distressed individuals. The Boys Care Center, for instance, is intended to house those male children and adult in difficult circumstances, particularly in the armed conflict situation,” Rellon said.
The City Government of Tagum will also transform the City Hall into a Green Building, with the City Hall Grounds to be transformed into a mini-park. Anytime this year, the city is also set to launch the Tagum City River Cruise to showcase the wetlands of Tagum. Part of the cruise is to also showcase the rich aquaculture of Tagum, through the Tagum City Aquaculture Complex.
The mentioned projects are part of the developmental program dubbed as Eagle Wings, which is conceptualized by Rellon that aims to amplify the city’s economy.
“The state of Tagum City is excellently strong,” he said.
