TOP BRASS VOWS TO WORK ON GRASSROOTS SPORTS AGENDA
ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Philippine Sports Commission chair William Ramirez vows to work with the Department of Education (DepEd) in the grassroots sports program.
In the opening ceremony of the 2019 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet in Capiz on Feb 17, 2019, Ramirez said he will be working closely with the DepEd for the program.
“Before leaving the WVRAA meet, I am committed to Governor Antonio Del Rosario to have a sports science conference in the region for Panay Island and support these places for sports development,” Ramirez said.
He said that this is the first time that the PSC, local government unit and DepEd will be working together.
In a gathering at the Capiz’ Villareal Stadium of more than 5,000 athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, chaperons, members of the working committees, technical officials, governors and other local and national government officials from the different provinces in Western Visayas, Ramirez stressed that the youth are the future of our country.
“The Western Visayas athletic meet is about friendship, peace-making and values that we learn in life," he said, adding that it is in this assembly of delegations where governors are leading the path.
He cited WVRAA as an organization where diversity of religion, culture and beliefs are here; an assembly of youth who are dwelling into following authorities, humility, defeat and enjoyment of victories.
Ramirez also urged the athletes to look beyond the four corners of the classrooms, textbooks and computers and journey “your youth with the purpose and dream.”
“Live life skills that would prepare you with the future; follow your heart and follow where your heart leads,” he added.
He is also optimistic that all the delegations will finish the line, win or lose, and embrace the beauty of understanding, unity and peacemaking being the future leaders of the country. (PIA-Capiz)
