MAKATI CITY – Micah Beatrice Santos from Barangay West Rembo, an 18-year-old tourism student at the University of Makati (UMak), has been crowned Miss Makati 2019 after besting 23 other candidates at the coronation night held Friday at the Makati Coliseum.
In a statement, Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay said the city’s beauty queen wowed the judges with her striking beauty, confidence, and intelligence, making her an ideal partner of the city government in promoting a “smart, sustainable, at future-ready city.”
Binay said: “nakakabilib na sa kabila ng mga pagsubok, bumangon at hinarap ito ng Miss Makati 2019 at ginawang oportunidad upang maging mas malakas at matatag sa buhay,” adding Santos will be able to fulfill her duties as Miss Makati 2019 and promote the city as a Smart City.
The mayor explained that Miss Makati 2019 will serve as the city’s ambassador of goodwill while inspiring young residents to play a role in the city-building, in line with the theme “Creating the Future Now.”
Aside from the crown, Santos, who also won the “Miss Photogenic” award during the pageant night, highlighted her advocacy against bullying since she herself was a victim of bullying.
Kristina Cassandra Bahaj and Venice Kayla Barrameda won as Miss Makati Tourism 2019 and Miss Makatizen 2019, respectively.
“Pareho nilang ipinakita ang kanilang kakayahan sa pagtatatag ng lungsod bilang Smart City at dahil dito, sila ay magiging instrumento upang magbigay inspirasyon sa mga Makatizen,” she said. (JL/LON)
