VALENZUELA LIGHTS UP 50-FT CHRISTMAS TREE
VALENZUELA CITY – The Valenzuela City government lighted up again the 50-foot Christmas tree in various parts of the city.
Mayor Rexlon Gatchalian and Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who once served as Valenzuela City mayor, led this year’s event held simultaneously in Valenzuela City People’s Park, New Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela Maysan Campus and Disiplina Village – Bignay.
The local government dedicated the Tree of Hope to the recent topnotchers who have given the city pride in their respective fields.
Pop-rock singer-song writer Yeng Constantino, rock band Moonstar 88 and singer Gino Padilla serenaded the crowd in Valenzuela City People’s Park, PLV Maysan Campus and Disiplina Village – Bignay, respectively.
Lighting the tree has been a tradition in Valenzuela since 2004 to formally usher in the Yuletide season in the city.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Committee – National Capital Region lauded the city government for its outstanding implementation of Republic Act 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006.
The award was given during the agency’s celebration of the 7th Juvenile Justice & Welfare Consciousness Week.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) also named People’s Park as one of the recipients of the Haligi ng Dangal Awards 2018.
The award aims to recognized exemplary works and encourage the sustenance of the Filipino spirit, the development and improvement of the Filipino-built environment and enhancement of the awareness of the role of design and designers, specifically that of architecture and its allied profession in the social, economic, and environmental development of the country.
