VILLAGE EXEC NABBED IN ISABELA ANTI-DRUG OPS



CORDON, Isabela — A 51-year-old village official was arrested in a drug operation in Barangay Quezon here Wednesday night.

Emerson Rosales, director of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 2 (Cagayan Valley), identified the suspected drug pusher as Barangay Quezon councilor Petronio Sioson.

Seized from him was a sachet of shabu weighing 0.05 grams.

Aside from Sioson, 22 other suspected drug peddlers were nabbed in the region over the past two weeks.

“For this month, a total of 17 operations were initiated with 23 arrested drug personalities, nine of whom are high-value targets (HVTs), including Barangay Kagawad Sioson,” Rosales told reporters on Thursday.

“These numbers shall escalate as we intensify our efforts to rid Cagayan Valley region of high-value targets. The PDEA, PNP (Philippine National Police) and other law enforcement units are always on guard,” he added.

The suspect has been committed to the municipal jail here following the filing of charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, against him. (PNA)
