WELDER YIELDS 2 GUNS IN SUBIC CHECKPOINT

SUBIC, Zambales -- Police confiscated two handguns from a welder while conducting a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint along the National Highway, Barangay Mangan-vaca in this town Friday night.

Chief Insp. Joan Sibayan, 2nd PMFC Force Commander of the Subic Municipal Police Station, identified the suspect as Diosdado G. Cervantes Jr., 36, welder, of Sitio Baltao, Barangay Calapandayan, this town.

Police confiscated from the suspect, a caliber .45 and a Luger 9mm pistols with loaded magazine.

The suspect insisted that he was not aware of the gun ban being implemented across the country.

The Comelec officially began the election period last month and a gun ban, which will be carried out from January 13 to June 12, is strictly being implemented by the Philippine National Police.
